Hydraulic transport of soils by means of sluice-chamber feeders
Conclusions Sluice-chamber feeders for hydraulic transport of soil and scale were developed and put into operation for the first time in Russia. These feeders make it possible to increase the pressure of one stage to 2.4 MPa and to increase the delivery distance by 3–4 times compared with soil pumps. The replacement of soil pumps being actively worn by centrifugal water pumps makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the hydraulic transport system with a decrease of wear and reduction of energy, material, and labor expenditures. The combination of a thin-layer thickener with a sluice-chamber feeder permits loading the chamber with solid material in a dry form or material separated from the soil — water mixture with subsequent delivery to the pressure pipeline with an adjustable optimal concentration.Sluice-chamber feeders permit broadening the area of effective use of hydraulic transport of soil and sludge (sand, ash wastes, scale, etc.) in various sectors of the economy: in construction, mining and concentration, metallurgy, in developing oil and gas fields, in removing ash of heat and electric power stations and regional power station operating on solid fuel. In many cases, especially under roadless conditions, it is expedient to replace motor transport by hydraulic transport. The technology of hydraulic transport of soil with a recycled water supply and electric drive of the pumps is least disturbing to the environment compared with other types of transport.
