Current research on the slagging properties of coals and slagging in boilers
Research on the slagging properties of coals and slagging in boilers continues to be of current interest, despite many years of experience and considerable progress. This is because of changes in the fuel balance and the development and introduction of new technologies. These include changes in the design of pulverized coal fired boilers to reduce atmospheric pollution, higher steam temperatures, combustion in oxygen, and thermal preparation of coal. Reducing slagging requires boiler designs consistent with the properties of coal, the ability to vary the conditions under which slagging occurs, improved monitoring, control, and cleaning methods.
