Thixotropic action in remoulded quick clay
Abstract Particle rearrangement and reordering of the water phase in thixotropically recovering quick clay have been investigated by means of electron microscopy and nuclear spin echo technique. The increase of strength with time was found to be connected with flocculation after dispersion by remoulding. The spin-spin coherence time $ T_{2} $ increased with time indicating that the ordering of the water molecules in the pores decreased. In one of the clays, having a fairly low water content, $ T_{2} $ decreased after a certain laps of time, indicating that the ordering of intra-aggregate water molecules was time-dependent.
