Summary On the role of lithogenesis and erosion processes in landslide formation (the result of experience gained from the Crimean and Caucasian coasts). The formation of landslide deposits on slopes is to be considered as one of the stages in the continental rock lithogenesis, interdependent and closely connected with erosion, denudation and secondary continental accumulation. The results of a complex study of petrographic peculiarities, chemical-mineralogical composition, state, durability properties and landslide slope deformation behaviour of rocks along the southern coast of the Crimea and the Caucasus Black Sea shore made it possible to establish a series of regularities in the formation of engineering-geological properties of these rocks.
