Summary A feature of the Second Australia — New Zealand Conference on Geomechanics, was that many papers and discussions reflected the integrated view of Geomechanics held by the two member societies. Although some papers could be classified into the categories of Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology, several papers were presented jointly by authors from two or even three fields. Discussion also was wide ranging stimulating cross-fertilization of ideas. A total of 61 papers were presented, and this report reviews some of those of particular interest to engineering geologists. The selected papers come from six categories:Landslides and Slope Stability.Soft Rock Engineering.Submarine Tunnel Investigations.Underground Installations.Dam site Investigations.Rock Classification.
