On education in engineering geology in the Federal Republic of Germany
Summary From 1970 to 1975 teaching and training in engineering geology has been considerably improved in West Germany. The number of lectures and seminars offered has almost doubled from 7 to 13, as an average of all universities. Four universities offer more than 26 hours of lectures in engineering geology and related subjects per week and study period. The enlarged programme is intended to produce qualified graduate scientists in the various fields of activity of engineering geology. At the same time vocational possibilities will be improved for the rapidly growing number of students of geology and engineering geology. Postgraduate courses and seminars should serve the same purpose; however, the relatively small number of university teachers and their normal obligations do not allow a sufficient range of such courses to be offered.
