Influence of machine stiffness and shear rate on the friction behaviour of rock joints
Summary A new servo-controlled shear testing machine is described, which eliminates the influence of the stiffness of the testing machine. The results of friction tests conducted on conventional shear machines are compared with those obtained with the new machine. Further a dependence of frictional resistance on shearing rate is demonstrated.
