Geological hazards — Insurance and legal and technical aspects
Summary Geological hazards remain a major risk, even growing with urban concentration. Scientific and technical progress is being made towards forecasting (probabilistic), prediciting (definite), prevention and warning, and protective works. Legal measures are necessary for prevention. The international review is very confuse. This subject is in evolution mostly for land use planning and for building codes. In addition, insurances exist against various geological hazards in several countries. A review is given with conclusions on geological and economical data necessary for a rational approach to the subject. The geological data necessary for legal measures are the same.
