Geotechnical description and classificatioin of joint surfaces
Summary Description and classification of joints is extremely important for many geotechnical problems. It is therefore desirable to describe and classify the joints in such a manner that their influence can be assessed qualitatively and, if possible, quantitatively. In the following, the joint surfaces are so described that a quantitative measurement of surface characteristics is possible by simple measurement methods. Special consideration is thereby given to the prediction of the influence of joint surface characteristics on the shear resistance of rock joints.
