Lateritic aggregate used to fabricate concrete
Abstract This paper presents the first results of an investigation that is being carried out with lateritic aggregate from North and North-East Brazil to evaluate the behaviour of lateritic concrete (in which lateritic aggregate replaces the normal aggregate). The results obtained revealed that (i) the lateritic aggregate has adequate physical characteristics to fabricate concrete; (ii) the compressive strength of lateritic concrete, though 30% less than normal concrete, is still adequate for civil engineering purposes. This strength is related to the strength of the aggregate as failure occurred not only in the concrete but also in the aggregate.
