Some geotechnical aspects of urban development over limestone terrain in Malaysia
Abstract Limestone in Malaysia exhibits a wide range of solutional features. The outcrops of these rocks, often in the form of isolated hills, expose only a fraction of the surface area underlain by the limestone. The alluvial plains on which several of the major urban centres have been built commonly have limestone bedrock at varying depths of superficial cover. The karstic nature of the subsurface limestone has given rise to a number of unique geotechnical problems.
