Recent Crustal Movements and Seismicity Studies Around Active Faults, Aswan, Egypt
Abstract Monitoring of recent crustal movements was carried out in Egypt for the first time in the Aswan region after the occurrence of the November 14,1981 earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 in the Kalabsha area 60 km southwest from the Aswan High Dam. This earthquake was considered a very important event as it was located not far from the Aswan High Dam. Due to its possible association with the impoundment of the Aswan Lake, especially the water activity in and around this lake. p]The data used in this study consists of the geodetic data and the catalogue of earthquake determined by the Aswan seismic network. In this work, we are trying to give a clear picture about the order of movements and their role in earthquake occurrence in the Aswan region. The analysis of such measurements together with the frequency and intensity of seismic activity and the changes of the water level, can lead to understanding the cause of earthquake occurrence and its origin.
