Influence of salinity on rheologic and strength properties of frozen soils in Yamal
Data are presented for creep and strength characteristics acquired during testing of frozen clay and clayey-loam monoliths of the Upper-Pleistocene and Middle-Pleistocene marine deposits of the Salekhardsk formation, which are located in the northern section of Yamal, and contiguous to the shallow-water portion of the continental shelf, and also sheet ice. An eight-year prediction of deformations is made for certain types of soils and ice. It is demonstrated that determination of creep characteristics with use of results of stabilometric tests expands the possibilities for application of S. S. Vyalov’s formula for prediction of the soil deformations under load.
