Recommendations for testing concrete by the ultrasonic pulse method
Summary These recommendations deal with the application of the ultrasonic pulse method to derive the elastic properties, strength and homogeneity of structural concrete, and for locating internal defects, etc. Methods of measuring the pulse velocity, and the influence of test conditions on the accuracy of the measurements are discussed. Recommendations are made which it is hoped will lead to better standardization of measuring techniques. Interpretational difficulties associated with the derivation of elastic properties and strength from in-situ measurements of pulse velocity are given, and methods are recommended for overcoming these difficulties.
