Some remarks upon concrete softening
Abstract Many concrete constitutive equations include a softening branch in the stress-strain curve. But very simple tests show that after the stress peak, strain measurement is no longer possible and that only displacement measurement is available because of localization of strains in shear bands. Therefore it is preferable to add to a simple behaviour model a localization criterion which induces softening. This text was prompted from professor Habib’s remark made about softening at the International Conference on Concrete under Multiaxial Conditions [11].
