Bending moment-mean curvature relationship with constant axial load in the presence of tension stiffening
Abstract The paper presents a mathematical model, well suitable and easy to use, which makes possible the determination of the bending moment-mean curvature relationship for beams subjected to combined bending and axial forces, taking tension stiffening effects into account. After describing the characteristic phases of the structural behaviour, which is discontinuous owing to crack opening, the analytical formulations as well as solving techniques are presented. Some numerical examples complete the paper, both to show that the procedure is of wide general application and to make possible useful comparisons with the results which can be found in the literature on this subject.
