Mechanics of aggregate rebound in shotcrete—(Part I)
Abstract This study presents a critical review of classical rebound theory, initially developed to deal with metals, and introduces the modifications necessary to deal with the case of particle rebound from a fresh concrete substrate. This leads to a general theory that allows calculating the energy of rebound of an impinging aggregate particle. In addition, experimental determinations of velocities of impact and rebound, made using a single-particle shooting apparatus and a high-speed camera, are described, showing that this theory is in good agreement with the experimental results.
