Takeuti’s investigation for its theoretical importance. Nisimura’s investigation for their extent, variety and careful estimation of the indirect effect of the ocean tides. In this connection attention, might be drawn again (See p. 398) to the wide discrepancy betweenNisimura’s estimate of the indirect tidal effect at Gaïthersburg and the estimate ofMarkowitz andBestul for this effect at Washington, estimates that should agree rather closely because of the nearness of Gaithersburg to Washington.
