Engineering geological and ecological consequences of hydrotechnical construction in the kolkhety depression
Summary Engineering activity of man in the Kolkhety depression, directed to reclamation of swamped areas and development of peat moors, brings about manifestation of rather unfavourable engineering geological processes and phenomena which may exert a harmful effect upon the natural environment in this valuable subtropical region of the country. Landslide processes occurring at drainage channels and deformation of the latter decrease transmissive capacity of the channels, this favouring flooding of adjoining reclaimed areas. Erection of artificial reservoirs at the sites of peat excavation leads to transformation of the whole environment and will offer danger to both the supposed reservoir joining the sea and submersion of the important seaport town of Poti.
