Increasing the Bearing Capacity and Durability of Building Foundations on Frozen Soils
The article considers the behavior of pile foundations of buildings constructed on permafrost soils with the preservation of the frozen state, depending on the methods of cooling the base: surface cooling using a cold underfloor space and deep cooling using the seasonal cooling devices (SCD) located along the perimeter of the building together with effective thermal insulation of the base. It is shown that in the first case, during longterm operation of piles, periodic seasonal fluctuations in temperature and stresses in the upper layers of the base can lead to a significant decrease in the bearing capacity. In the second case, the amplitude of temperature fluctuations in the frozen base is significantly reduced. Due to the stabilization of the annual temperature mode, not only the reliability and bearing capacity of pile foundations increase, but also the use of a foundation slab resting on frozen soils becomes possible.
