Community systematization and learning: project management for change
This article explores how project management can be understood as the management of social interventions which aim to bring about social transformation. This ‘management for change’ approach is underpinned by a process through which collective learning throughout all stages of the intervention is made possible. Such a process is known as ‘systematization’, and this article provides a rich and detailed explanation and analysis of the components of systematization, and how it can be integrated into project management. Illustrative cases are provided from Colombia, with particular emphasis on collective processes of systematization which enable learning across organizations. Some key impacts identified are the increased autonomy and self-determination of social organizations.
