Public Participation in a Village Regrouping Scheme
“Rural development” is becoming a household phrase because of the priority attention attached to the concept at international, national and local levels. The involvement of the rural people themselves in programmes that can achieve meaningful rural development has long been desired. This paper examines the extent of the involvement of the inhabitants of “Ajowa group of villages” in the conception, planning, and execution of “Ajowa Village regrouping scheme”, a scheme purposely conceived to achieve rural development in the-then Western Region of Nigeria in 1955.
