Older Women Participating in the Community: Pathways and Barriers
ABSTRACT The article considers the aspirations of a group of older women regarding participation in their local community. The experience of their involvement in local schools as part of a community development project is discussed. The article provides insights into the impact of disability on participation and contends that structural difficulties are equally as important as personal factors in creating barriers to participation in community life for older women.
