The Cost-benefit Analysis of a Loan Scheme:: Rangabelia Project
ABSTRACT The Rangabelia Project, an Indian voluntary organisation, aims at socio-economic development of a part of Sunderbans region in West Bengal. The activities of the voluntary effort concentrated in rural areas of two development blocks, provide a unique experimentation in rural development. Given its generally impressive image and performance, its replicability could help in the economic development of other backward regions. Prior to adopting such a model framework, however, it is important to know if one can evaluate in quantitative terms the benefits from the project comparison to its costs to the society's resources.
