Melamine/monoammonium phosphate complex as the polyphosphate substitute in flame retardant coatings
Synthesis of the melamine–monoammonium phosphate complex and its application for fireproof intumescent paints are reported. The experimental intumescent liquid samples appear smooth with excellent rheology and thixotropicity; they produce good expanded chars with satisfactory time of fire resistance in the case of a simulated cellulose fire. In this study, the influence of mineral foam cementing agents was also established. Talc (MgSiO3) and kaolin (Al2(SiO3)3) seem to be preferable cementing agents due to their soft influence on the expanded char structure.
