Roofing Geometry of Deployable X-Frames
Deployable X-Frames are sets of scissors connected together that interact taking different forms, from a completely folded bundle, to an extended assembly occupying a large area. Although there are mechanisms activated during the deploying process, when expanded, they can be stiffened by connecting some points to external supports or by including some elements as additional bars. These spatial grids are very useful because of their capability to be assembled rapidly. However the structure must be completed by the addition of a roof material that permits enclosure of the building. This cover can be placed when the structure is deployed and can be rigid, such as metal panels or flexible, such as a fabric roof. It is possible to achieve different solutions for the cladding that can be packed together with the structure and then unfolded or deployed simultaneously with the deployment of the space frame. Our study includes not only flexible materials that are easy to deploy but also rigid plates, that although heavier can also be folded and unfolded.
