A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper carried out experimental and analytical investigation on the shear behavior of RC beams containing corroded stirrups. Test results indicate that if the percentage local maximum mass loss is below 35%, stirrup corrosion has little influence on the load-carrying mechanism. Analytical results showed that the number and locations of stirrups in corroded specimens sustaining shear load is as the same as that of the sound specimen. Taking into account the reduction in shear resistance by stirrups due to the cross-sectional loss, the shear strength can be predict accurately using “modified truss analogy”. Experimental and analytical results also showed that the anchorage conditions of the stirrups have a predominant influence on the shears of RC beams.
