Abstract An overview on some aspects of the role of microstructure and of moist environment on fatigue crack propagation is given. The respective influence of several microstructural parameters as grain size, texture, alloy phases, ageing conditions, and of extrinsic factors as crack closure and environment for metallic alloys is illustrated and discussed.
