Statistical Parameter Uncertainty, Information Level And Reliability Assessment
Abstract Much of the effort in the development of the theory of structural reliability over the last two decades has been aimed at producing a cogent formulation of safety analysis: one which would be immune to criticism by those who held that probabilistic thinking was inappropriate in the context of civil engineering structures. Fortunately for the proposers, this period coincided with a wave of renewed interest in the basic premises of probabilistic decision theory, in particular concerning the twin notions of subjective probability and Bayesian updating (1).
