High-Rise Public Housing Development in Singapore
Abstract Singapore’s public housing dates back to the formation of the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in 1927 under the British Colonial Government. However, as far as housing development was concerned, there was no significant progress, as “SIT was much less a housing authority than a municipal body, its work was confined largely to constructing and widening roads and creation of open spaces” (Housing and Development Board, 1970).
