Effect of Sawdust and Sawdust Ash on Expansive Soil
This study presents the utilization of sawdust and sawdust ash as stabilizing materials to improve the engineering characteristics (primarily with the change in index properties like liquid and plastic limits) of expansive soils. The liquid limit and plastic limt increase with an increase in the sawdust and sawdust ash in contrast to that of plasticity index, which decreases with the increase of those ingredients. It has also been revealed that the variation of soil strength and free swelling index is more pronounced when sawdust is used as the additive compared to the corresponding values obtained with sawdust ash. The optimal quantity of sawdust and sawdust ash needed to modify effectively the index properties is 9%.
