Abstract In the process of aircraft collision, the massive engines would quite likely detach from the aircraft wings due to the great deceleration and lead to the deepest local penetration among all aircraft components (Riera et al. in Nucl Eng Des 71(3):311–316, 1982). Hence, the impact damage caused by the aircraft engine missile needs to be investigated separately.
