    Abstract One of the new problems in geotechnical earthquake engineering is related to a fault action. This situation was triggered by the 1995 earthquake in Kobe area as well as the 1999 ChiChi earthquake in Taiwan. The effects of fault movement in the underlying rock mass may or may not affect structures at the ground surface.
