Piloting a Management and Evaluation Protocol for Occupant Quality of Life in Welsh Dwelling Retrofits
(Student Paper) This paper discusses a protocol for effectively managing government funded residential retrofit projects in Wales, UK, with improved occupant quality of life factors. Driven by current legislation and multiple government funded retrofit schemes, case studies have been developed from the Arbed Two and Arbed Three retrofit schemes funded by Welsh Government. Using these retrofit schemes, its occupants and stakeholders, a validated protocol incorporating stakeholder interviews, IDEFØ (Integrated Definition for Modelling), Short Form-36 health survey and RAND (Research and Development) scoring system was developed. This methodology enables for effective stakeholder decision making processes, while simultaneously obtaining empirical data about occupant health and their subsequent quality of life in dwellings. In addition, a step-by-step researchers guide on applying this multi-method tool on residential retrofit schemes, and working with occupants and stakeholders is outlined, supported by case studies.
