Abstract Statics of cantilevered masonry stairs, the so-called “scale alla romana”, is the subject of this chapter. The flights of these stairs are cantilevered from a wall and connected by small vaults constituting the landings. The flight is composed of a long masonry vault having a depressed transverse sectional profile. For this type of structure the existence of an admissible equilibrium may appear paradoxical. A new resistant model of these stairs is proposed in the no tension context. The model is validated by numerical investigations and comparisons with tests.
