Passenger Forecasting as a Mobility Project for Smart Cities in Manizales, Colombia

One of the critical points in a smart city is mobility. People Contact S.A.S. and Cable Aereo de Manizales have developed a project to extract information and generate a forecasting system that consists of two analyses: one descriptive and the other predictive, illustrated in a dashboard. For the predictive analysis, we created a Recurrent Neural Network model to predict the next half hour. With a recursive test, we predicted 336 values with an R2 score higher than 0.7 for all four stations of the Cable Car systems in Manizales, Colombia. This forecasting helps to improve attention and economic parameters in the Cable Car systems. Additionally, further studies with mobility information will help generate a unified mobility system and impact citizens, considering Manizales as a smart city regarding mobility issues.
