ESR Spectra Of NON-S Ions in the Intermediate Valence Compound CePd3
Abstract Published ESR experimental data of non-S ground state rare earths ions in the intermediate valence (IV) compound CePd3 [1], and its isomorphous non-IV YPd3 [2], were interpreted qualitatively by their authors. Those experiments were performed in polycrystaline samples and, for CePd3:Dy and YPd3:Er, some anisotropic levels of the ground multiplet mask the results. A complete fitting of the spectra requires a calculation including all the possible effects on it, with the anisotropy of the resonances included in the calculation. The difference between both systems, that is, IV effects in CePd3, should become evident only when the whole spectra is adjusted to a model.
