Mathematical model of annual runoff fluctuations for hydrologic and water-management calculations
Conclusions 1. The simple Markov chain can be used with sufficient accuracy for describing the fluctuations of annual runoff. The modifications of the simple Markov chain proposed by I. O. Sarmanov and N. A. Kartvelishvili give the best and practically identical coincidence with the observational data. 2. A standard assignment of the correlation coefficient between adjacent terms as a function of the specific discharge of a river (see Table 1) is proposed for the recommended model (due to I. O. Sarmanov). 3. The design relations between reservoir capacity and its guaranteed water yield should be worked out in conformity with the recommended model. When they are compiled it will be possible to use Guglii's nomograms for rivers with small specific discharges and the nomograms of Ya. P. Pleshkov [9] for rivers with large specific discharges. 4. It is recommended to use artificial runoff series corresponding to model V for a detailed investigation of bodies of water and water-management installations regulating the annual runoff.
