Seismic Performance of Modular Steel Braced Building Equipped with BRB Braces
Modular steel construction (MSB) is a novel construction technique that helps in reducing the time spent on the construction site. The demand for modular steel buildings has increased because of their improved quality, less material waste and fast on-site installation. Bracing systems are used to resist the lateral loads of MSBs especially in low rise buildings. A regular 4-storey MSB was compared with torsionally irregular MSB using ETABS software and its performance was evaluated for different bracing system such as external braces, internal braces and BRB. Time history analysis was utilized to judge the benefits in terms of the response parameters lateral displacement, storey drift and base shear. Torsional Irregularity came into context when the load eccentricity was 15%. The results showed a good improvement in the seismic resistance of MSB with incorporation of additional braces. External braces and external BRB braces shows better performance among the considered bracing systems.
