A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract The S-PRH built in 2000 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is the suburban model of the PRH (Perfectly Recycled House) Series of experimental houses. The house uses recyclable building materials and has a double-skin space. This double-skin space is designed as a tool for passive techniques, enabling regulation of the environment through operation of windows and sun shading fixtures by the residents. Result of experimentation in summer, it was confirmed that the double-skin space of the S-PRH could improve indoor comfort and reduce the air-conditioning load by allowing the resident to appropriately use different passive technique to suit outside weather conditions that change moment by moment.
