A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
New Perspectives for Architecture and Design
Fabrication using robotic machining centers
Abstract One of the main challenges — be it in engineering, architecture, or design — is to combine form and function. With regard to both of these aspects, the choice of material is a deciding factor when designing elaborate three-dimensional structures, as it has an impact not only on the structural properties, but also on an object’s visual and haptic appeal. Fabricating such structures in an economic, energy- and resource-efficient way requires in-depth knowledge about the properties of materials, as well as innovative approaches to how they can be processed.
