Pressure exerted by surf and breaking waves on a vertical wall
Conclusions 1. Laboratory investigations of the action of surf and waves on a vertical wall have enabled this phenomenon to be defined more precisely from the viewpoints of kinematics and dynamics and, using as basis the concept of the impact of a liquid jet on a wall, for a quasistatic method to be proposed for detrmining wave pressures on a vertical wall. 2. The test data cover a range of wave steepness h/λ from 0.05 to 0.10 and relative water depths HC/h ranging from 0.85 to 1.71. 3. Presented in Table 3 is a summary of formulas whose limits of application are given by h<-Hc<-Hcr.
