Effect of Distance on Bearing Capacity of Strip Footing on Slope
The behaviour of bearing capacity of strip footing on its varied position from crest of the slope was studied in this paper. The term crest indicates here is the top line of the slope. In this study, the bearing capacity evaluation for the soil slope overlying soft soil was proposed based on numerical and experimental evaluation. The experimental model tests were carried out using model footing of 80 mm width. A series of finite-element analyses were performed on a prototype slope using ABAQUS software. The soil was represented by non-linear Mohr–Coulomb soil model. The effect of the parameter included in the study is the location of footing from the crest and the variation of slope angle on bearing capacity were studied. The results obtained from numerical and experimental evaluation show a significant rise in bearing capacity of footing when it is placed at a distance of 4B from the crest of slope. The results indicated that the calculated results obtained from the numerical evaluation were much closer to the experimental results.
