The Typology of the Structural Sealant Glazing Façade System
The typology of the structural sealant glazing façade system is determined according to the use of frame profiles, supporting the double-glazed units, prepared in the laboratory and assembled on site using structural silicone, avoiding the view of frame elements on the outside. The mullion and transom profiles are provided with thermal break projections from the external front partitions, to which the frame profiles are connected for the silicone assembly of the double-glazing panels. The transverse geometries of the mullions and transoms are based on the expected mechanical stresses, the overall dimensions of the modules and the value of the moment of inertia. The structural façade system is determined on the use of regular, combined or articulated tubular sections (as in the case of the “frame” façade): in particular, the combination of mullion and transom sections makes it possible to build regular or polygonal façade curtains, always avoiding the visualization of external profiles for the connection of the double-glazing panels. The application of silicone fixing of insulating glass panes covers a variety of façade solutions, considering the combination of profiles from the same range by focusing on the extension of frame profiles, profile ribs and gasket cavities. At the same time, the spaces occupied by the frame profiles can be brought back to the assembly of the window and door frames, or to the corner or joint technical interfaces with the lateral, extrados and intrados surfaces: in this case, integrating connection plates, waterproofing membranes and thermo-insulating layers. The system offers multiple basic execution situations, either from the production catalogue or customized to the specifics of the architectural organism.
