Mechanical and Microstructural Behavior of Similar and Dissimilar AA6082-T6 and AA7050-T7 Friction Stir Welded Joints
This work presents a comprehensive study on the mechanical and microstructural behavior of AA6082-T6 and AA7050-T7 similar and dissimilar friction stir welds. The macrostructure of dissimilar weld and AA6082-T6 similar weld was found identical on the advancing side (AS). The microstructural behaviors of weld nuggets were investigated through electron-backscattered diffraction (EBSD). In EBSD maps, most of the recrystallized grains were observed in similar AA6082-T6 weld nuggets, whereas the lowest ones were observed in similar AA7050-T7 weld nuggets. The mechanical properties of the joints were evaluated through tensile testing and microhardness measurements, which confirm that the tensile specimen of all welds is fractured from respective minimum hardness locations.
