Investigation on Modified Geosynthetic Clay Liner for Sanitary Landfill
The increasing amount of waste generated worldwide poses significant challenges to the environment, public health, and sustainable development. The improper disposal of waste can lead to various environmental problems. Use of sanitary landfills is one of the most favored and widely used techniques for disposing of garbage. Landfills are carefully constructed systems for containing waste, engineered to reduce the effects of solid waste on both the environment and human health. It highlights essential use of lining systems in a landfill, for creating a barrier between the environment and the waste. Because of its low permeability, economy and accessibility, marine clay becomes a suitable choice as liner. This study found that marine clay added with 9% coconut shell biochar and 6% Bentonites yields the best results to be used as a liner soil.
