Sequential Patterns of Daily Human Activity Extracted from Person Trip Survey Data
The measurement of activity pattern has raised significant interest in geography, urban planning and management, and transportation for a long time. In this paper, we firstly quantify the similarity between activities and find that working and educational-related activities, as well as shopping/entertainment and personal activities, are conducted in similar patterns. We later propose another method of extracting sequential activity patterns. The result suggests that most people’s activity sequences are simple, and a limited number of patterns can cover most people’s activity sequences. We further analyze how the clusters change by regions with different distances to the city center, and by individual attributes. It is noticed that the proportions of activity patterns change as the distance increases and as age increases. Three age groups and three occupation groups are observed. Our research contributes to a better understanding of people’s daily activity sequences.
