Effectiveness of excavating soils by floating suction dredges with a high water output

Conclusions 1. The combination of prescouring of high above-water faces with intake of the soil by maneuverable dredges having a high output (performing mainly functions of floating dredge plants) will give a quite considerable technical and economic effect. 2. The effectiveness of the proposed technology will increase still more with the use of the discharge water from the dumps for scouring the above-water faces. 3. The technology can find wide use also in open-pit work at large installations of the mining industry. 4. Considering the considerable practical experience of using hydraulic excavation in our country and for further improvement of design-estimate affairs, it is necessary to revise radically the normatives of the SNiP on hydraulic work by developing a methodologically substantiated classification of soils according to difficulty of excavation and on its basis differentiated normatives on the productivity of equipment depending on the character, volumes, and duration of the works.
