Abstract In nowadays, the term “intelligent building” is getting more and more popular and a sophisticated building automation system (BAS) is actually the heart of every “intelligent building”. One of the major functions of BAS is energy management. In this chapter, the history of development of BAS is described. Then, the hardware structure and software features of a modern BAS are highlighted so that the readers can gain an overall understanding of this important system in every modern commercial building.
