Fire Risk Analysis for Nuclear Power Plants
Abstract Fire risk analysis for nuclear power plants, as currently performed in the U.S. and abroad, is focused on assessing the likelihood of a particular industrial accident: the loss of cooling to the reactor core and subsequent core damage. The analyses are performed using a probabilistic approach developed in the late 1970s and implemented in numerous studies. Efforts to improve analysis realism through the refinement of analytical methods, tools, and data are underway. These efforts will support the increased use of fire risk analysis in risk-informed decision making.
